The first

litter was born 4th March 1991

And here they are, Josefiina, Joonatan and Justiina at the age of 10 years March 2001!
They all looked a little older, but they were in good condition.

Our breeding started  when we wanted breed just one litter with our own dogs, Elli and Hiski. Our friends had been asking for their puppies and we wanted to see what would come out of these two lovely dogs. Elli is a smooth hair miniature, but because she is born from wire hair parents it was possible to mate her with wire haired Hiski.
Four puppies were born,  three of them had wire hair,  Josefiina is smooth hair.

The puppies had  lovely temperaments, of course, what else could have come from our lovely dogs ; ) But they also looked good, at least so we were told by other breeders who visited us. So, we got a little excited, and we wanted to keep the black and tan wire haired female, Justiina,  to continue breeding with her.
Here in Finland we have an official  system called placement: you own the dog but it lives with other people. It is just like their own dog, but you are allowed to breed and show her. After the female has had the litter the ownership goes to the people it has been living with. It is a great system at least for us , because we do  want all our dogs to live in homes, not in a kennel.
This way we also could continue breeding without having more and more dachsies.
The name Vauhtinakki ,"speedy sausage" in English, came from Elli. She was called with this name because she was  very wild when she was a puppy ; )

We do not breed more than one or two litters a year. More would be too hard because taking good care of the puppies takes a lot of work and time.  And it is the only way we want to do this.

The web site first started when people kept calling when we will have our next litter. The first versions in the end of year 1998  were just  short announcements of the plans we had. Then people wanted to see photos of our dachsies and photos of their own Vauhtinakki dachsies  and their relatives in the net. Then we bought a scanner and then a digital camera  and this whole web site thing started to grow and grow...

Today Vauhtinakki is the official, international kennel club FCI  registered  name of the dachsies we breed.  Most of our puppies are wire haired, sometimes we have smooth hair puppies too. Most of our dachsies are miniatures, but some have grown so small that they are
kaninchen  dachsies. That is they are "rabbit size" dachsies, even smaller than the miniatures.
